Holmleigh Park High School

School Closure / Remote Learning

An important update regarding school closures on Friday 18th February

Dear all,

You will no doubt be aware that today the Met Office issued a Red Weather Warning for Southwest England tomorrow, as a result of Storm Eunice. Winds are forecast to reach speeds of 80-90mph.

As a result, Holmleigh Park High School will be closed tomorrow, in line with all other GLT schools. I appreciate this may cause significant disruption for some families, for which I am very sorry, but your children’s safety will always be my top priority. Winds of 80mph are easily enough to knock students over, dislodge roof tiles, and throw debris around – potentially causing serious injury. As a result, I feel there is no option but to close the school for the day.

We will therefore move to remote learning for Friday. Students will be set five full lessons via Google Classroom. I have included full details below.

Best wishes, and please stay safe tomorrow.

Further Information on Remote Learning

All work will be set via Google Classroom. Most parents will be familiar with this from previous lockdowns. However, as we are switching at very short notice and for only one day, provision will differ slightly to previous lockdowns. Please therefore check the information below:

What work should students complete?

  • Students in Years 7-11 should complete five full lessons, following the timetable here. There is no need for students to complete more than five lessons.

  • Students in Sixth Form should follow their normal timetable. Where possible, lessons will be delivered live, so they should endeavour to be online at the same time as their lesson.

Where can I find further information?

Most parents and students will be familiar with Google Classroom from previous lockdowns. If your child is new to HP, or if you want to refresh your understanding, please note the following:

  1. Google Classroom is accessed by going to classroom.google.com on any browser.

  2. Students login using their normal HP email address and password. This is the same one they use to log into any computer at school.

  3. All students (including Year 7) have been taught how to access and submit work on Google Classroom in IT lessons, but if they need help, further help (including how to videos) can be found here

If you need further support with access issues, please email support@hphigh.co.uk.
