Holmleigh Park High School

Reading Programme

At Holmleigh Park, we think reading is a big deal! Apart from being great fun, reading teaches you about a wide range of other people and cultures, and teaches you to appreciate different points of view. It has also been proven that the more you read, the more you're likely to be successful in your education.

Tutor Time Reading

Every day at HP starts with reading. Every tutor group spends the first 25 minutes of the day reading together - the tutor reads a book and the class track it. This helps you develop as an excellent reader and learn new vocabulary. You can click below to find out what books we're reading in each year group. If you think we've missed a great book, please email our Literacy Coordinator, Ms Tomlin at  s.tomlin@hphigh.co.uk

DEAR Time

The day also ends with DEAR Time - Drop Everything And Read. In this period we expect students to read their own choice of book. It's a lovely, calm finish to the day.

The Library

Our school library has thousands of fiction and non-fiction books for students to choose from. We encourage students to borrow books as much as possible.

Please note, due to COVID-19, only one year group bubble can use the library each day:

Mondays - Year 7

Tuesdays - Year 8

Wednesdays - Year 9

Thursdays - Year 10

Fridays - Year 11
