Holmleigh Park High School

LETTER FROM THE HEAD - THURSDAY 23RD MARCH 2023

In this issue: Year 10 Work Experience, G15 Celebration and Year 7 author visit

Dear all,

This week many of our Year 10 students have been out on work experience to a varied range of employers. We know that work experience can help build confidence and self-esteem, as students gain different experiences and become more comfortable taking responsibility. Through work experience our students can gain a better understanding of their interests, which can help them later make more informed career decisions.Thank you to Mr Lockett for his efforts coordinating this.

Tonight, some of our students are taking part in the G15 Celebration event at Gloucester Cathedral. This will involve the Lion King Cast singing 'They Live in You' and then all schools in Gloucester coming together to sing the song that was written last term. We are very proud of our students for representing Holmleigh Park in this manner and thank you to Mr Goodway & My Johnson for supporting them. We have also started auditions for our summer musical, West Side Story. We are extremely excited about this and will have more information in future letters.

Earlier in the week, Year 7 had a visit from the author Catherine Bruton where she did a book reading and a creative workshop. All of Year 7 were inspired to write a short story and some students are now subsequently submitting their stories to a short story competition. A number of our students elected to read their short stories aloud to the whole year group which showed bravery and an impressive degree of oracy.

Tomorrow [Friday 24th March] the school is shut for INSET, so I wish you all a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing all of our students again on Monday.

Mr Hudson
Head of School
