Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head – Friday 28th November 2025

In this issue: A week of enrichment successes, community performances, sporting achievement, friendly house competitions and our December attendance focus.

Dear HP families,

Our Eco Club delivered a major project as part of Enrichment by planting 120 new trees across the site. British Oak, Wild Cherry, Silver Birch and Mountain Ash have been planted along the drive to create a long lasting and attractive approach into HP. In two areas on the field, students prepared future wildlife zones using a mixture of hedgerow plants including Dogwood, Hawthorn and Blackthorne and then added Hazel, Rowan and Silver Birch to build structure and encourage biodiversity. This is an investment in the future of our environment and a testament to the thoughtful and purposeful work of our young people. Thank you to Mrs Kingston for leading this project and to Mr Gardner, Dr Masters, Mr Lloyd and Mr Hughes for their support.

The HP Enrichment Choir delivered their debut public performance at Evolution Wrestlings Chasing Gold event at GL1. This was their first time performing to a very large audience and they did so with confidence and professionalism. Singing in front of the Mayor of Gloucester added to the occasion and every student represented HP with pride. Their hard work over the term was evident and I want to thank Mrs Greenow, Miss Fahy, Mrs Guennec and Mr Conway for preparing and supporting them so well. Well done to all involved.

Sporting success also continued with our Year 9 boys basketball team beginning the season with a 23 to 15 win against Severn Vale. It was a strong team display with some excellent rebounding from Abdullah which helped control possession. Caleb earned player of the match with sharp movement and decisive lay up skills. A well deserved win for a team who have trained with focus and energy. Congratulations to the whole squad.

Fun Friday continues to be a popular part of the week and our last two activities have had great student participation. The paper airplane competitions and maths challenge brought friendly competition across the houses. The standings were as follows: 1st Hurricane, 2nd Typhoon, 3rd Meteor and 4th Javelin. These small events build connection and enjoyment and it is always good to see students taking part so enthusiastically.

As we head into December our attendance push is more important than ever. The colder mornings can make the start of the day feel harder but it remains vital that students attend every day. We have 15 school days in December and strong attendance will make learning in the New Year far more productive. We will have Christmas events in the final week of term but the core message remains the same. Every lesson matters and missing learning now creates unnecessary challenges later. Thank you in advance for your support.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
