Letter from the Head – Friday 26th September 2025
In this issue: Sixth Form assessments, Year 11 exams and Champions Hour, weekly attendance raffles, enrichment activities, sport and rehearsals, and today’s Fun Friday Tug of War.
Dear HP families,
This week saw the first round of Sixth Form Monthly Assessments. These are a regular feature of Sixth Form life and provide our students with frequent opportunities to practise applying content to exam style questions in timed conditions. This is because we know the impact that consistent revision and repeated exposure to exam technique has on the confidence and performance of all our exam cohort students.
Year 11 students have also been hard at work with their GCSE English and Maths practice assessments. This week the focus was on Maths Paper 1 and English Language Paper 1 Question 5. Next week assessments continue with Literature Paper on Monday and Maths Paper 2 content on Wednesday. These regular assessments help our Year 11s build both knowledge and stamina as they prepare for the real thing next summer. I would like to particularly congratulate those students who attend Champions Hour after school from 4 to 5pm. This coming Tuesday in particular is an excellent opportunity for targeted Maths support, but the dedication shown by those who come week after week is commendable. Many are closing in on the 15 stamps needed on their Champions Hour Loyalty Card to qualify for the reward prize draw before half term.
Attendance has again been a central theme. Today every student who achieved 100% attendance from Monday to Friday was entered into our weekly raffle during afternoon Tutor Time. These raffles have quickly become a positive part of our routine and they will continue each week. I want to remind families how important it is to establish the habit of being present every day. Just like any habit, it becomes easier the more consistently it is maintained and starting strongly on a Monday sets the tone for the rest of the week.
Wednesday brought another round of Enrichment for all year groups. Every student took part in an activity beyond the classroom and the range of opportunities continues to give such excellent opportunities to our students. Rehearsals are now underway for our February production of Return to the Forbidden Planet and it was exciting to see the first steps being taken toward what promises to be a memorable performance. Sporting fixtures also featured this week and once again our students represented HP with energy and pride.
Finally, today’s Fun Friday provided a classic HP moment with a Tug of War that definitely captured the imagination of students. The atmosphere was outstanding from start to finish and the big finale of students versus teachers drew huge cheers. I am pleased to report that the teachers claimed victory on this occasion though I suspect the students will already be plotting their revenge.
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Mr Hudson
