Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - Friday 24th November 2023

In this issue: Sixth Form Open Evening and HP students engaging brilliantly with extracurricular opportunities

Dear all,

We were absolutely delighted last night with a fantastic attendance at our Sixth Form Open Evening. The Sixth Form is the pinnacle of our school and we are very proud of our 46% A*-B grades [A Levels] and 74% Distinction*-Distinction grades [Extended Diplomas] over the past two years. Our current Sixth Form students are contributing very well to our school community and we look forward to beginning to plan for a new year group of students to join us next year. Something that was noticeable last night was how many of our current Sixth Form students chose to attend and support the event. Not only did they look very smart and express themselves so articulately to the prospective families, but it showed just how proud they are to be a part of Holmleigh Park.

We currently have a real flurry of extracurricular sport alongside community and charity work. HP students having the opportunities to live out our school values by taking part and representing us in events outside of the classroom is extremely important. Recent events include:

- Sixth Form students supporting the Gloucester Primary Schools’ cross country.
- Students from all year groups taking part in HP’s first scavenger hunt, with the winners receiving those all important house points.
- Staff and students working together to conduct a Tuffley litter pick, making sure that we maintain that sense of responsibility for our local community.
- Charity events in the form of house bake sales and the launch of HP’s first ever Charities Week, with every house having a specific event to raise money for their linked charity.
- A visit from Richard Graham MP, who was again extremely impressed with our students’ maturity and determination to do their best. A group of our Sixth Form students had the opportunity to take in a Q&A with him and asked a host of well prepared and insightful questions.
- On Wednesday, our Boys’ Senior Sport rugby team had a pleasing win against Chosen Hill.

Finally, well done to our Year 11 and 13 students for the completion of their mock exams. Their teachers will use upcoming lessons to reteach key content identified in the mocks and this will prove invaluable.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
