Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head – Friday 23rd May 2025

In this issue: A breakfast update, Duke of Edinburgh preparations, exam season support, careers success, communication reminders and attendance priorities.

Dear HP families,

Firstly, I’m pleased to confirm that from Monday 2nd June, we will begin serving breakfast from the Performing Arts block between 08:00 and 08:20 each morning. Students will be able to buy sausage baps, bacon baps, hash browns, pastries, fruit and yoghurt. Those who are eligible for free school meals will not be able to use their FSM allowance until the usual time of 10:50, but if they have credit on their account, they can use this for breakfast. In addition, toast will continue to be available from the Drama studio during the same time window and is open to all students. We hope this continues to support a positive and settled start to the day for every member of our community.

Thank you to Ms Saltmarsh and Mr Hipwell, who have been putting in a great deal of time and effort supporting preparations for our upcoming Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.

Well done to all our Year 11 and Year 13 students who are continuing to show real determination and focus throughout the exam season. I know how challenging this time of year can be, and I encourage students to use the half-term holiday to balance revision with the opportunity to recharge.

We also received our annual Gatsby Benchmark update this week. The Gatsby Benchmarks are used by the Department for Education to evaluate the quality of careers education, with Benchmark 1, having a stable careers programme, being the foundation. Thanks to the brilliant work of Mr Lockett and the Careers team, we have already met 7 out of 8 benchmarks for this academic year. Gloucestershire County Council shared excellent feedback about our provision, which is testament to the dedication of the team and their commitment to ensuring all students are well informed about their future pathways.

A polite reminder to parents and carers: as stated in our Home-School Communication Protocol, we are not able to accommodate drop-in meetings. If you would like to meet with a member of staff, please email contact@hphigh.co.uk to arrange a pre-booked appointment.

Finally, a reminder about our weekly attendance focus. Attendance remains our number one priority this year. We are aiming for all students to attend at least 95% of the time, as this is a key indicator of success and wellbeing at HP. Please make sure you are checking your child’s attendance regularly on MCAS and get in touch with their Head of Year if you have any questions or concerns.

I wish you all a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone after the half-term holiday.

Mr Hudson
