Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - Friday 1st December 2023

In this issue: Our first House Rewards Trip, this week’s trips and events and our upcoming HP Charity Week

Dear all,

Something we are focussing on this year is increasing the number of rewards for all of our brilliant students who live out our three values and make such positive contributions to HP. This year we have our new Head of Character, Ms Browning, in post and part of her new role is to increase these rewards. Every week students are recognised by being given house point tokens by their teachers and then, on a Friday afternoon, they give the house point tokens to their tutor who logs them on to our IT system. You can see the number of house points that your child has accumulated so far this year on the MCAS app. This afternoon, Miss Browning and our four Heads of Houses, took a group of students to Tenpin in Gloucester to recognise the number of house points they have achieved so far this year. Congratulations to all of them and there will be plenty more reward opportunities as the year goes on.

Last weekend, a group of HP staff took students taking part in next year’s Ten Tors Challenge to Blaise High School in Bristol for their initial fitness training. This week we have had Sixth Form trips to the theatre, to watch A Streetcar Named Desire, and to Hereford College, to take part in a digital media workshop. We have also had careers workshops from GROWS delivered to our Year 9 and 12 students. Our visitors commented on the impeccable behaviour of our students and their very positive contributions to the sessions. It is excellent to see our students taking advantage of these opportunities and I am very grateful to all the HP staff involved for being so generous with their time.

Next week is our inaugural HP Charity Week. Our wonderful House council, Year 12 mentors and Year 13 captains have been working hard to organise the events which will take place every lunchtime next week. Each house has a specific event to raise money for linked charity. The events include a murder mystery, soaking the teacher, catchphrase, a penalty shootout and bingo. I am looking forward to being able to update you next week with the outcome of all these exciting events.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
