Letter from the Head – Friday 19th September 2025
In this issue: celebrating our first KS3 Awards Evening, Sixth Formers completing their DofE Gold expedition, the return of Fun Friday, a reminder of our mobile phone expectations, and Year 11 progress through Champions Hour.
Dear HP families,
This week has provided several opportunities to reflect on the hard work and commitment shown by our pupils across a variety of areas.
On Wednesday we held our inaugural Key Stage 3 Awards Evening. Pupils and parents were invited to celebrate achievements from the last academic year. Invitations were sent to those who had won awards for progress, attainment, best in subject and our four colours categories. It was a fantastic evening and a chance to mark the successes of our young people. It was a privilege to speak at the event and reflect on how those involved have set an excellent example for their peers. They have shown what it means to live out our values of Working Hard, Being Kind and Taking Responsibility.
Our Sixth Formers also completed their Duke of Edinburgh Gold practice expedition in the Peak District. This involved hiking independently for up to 14 miles each day while carrying all of their own equipment. Students demonstrated impressive navigation skills, guiding themselves across Snake Pass and visiting landmarks such as Kinder Scout and Jacob’s Ladder. All involved showed great teamwork, resilience and perseverance in what was a challenging and rewarding week. Their ability to support each other through demanding circumstances was particularly impressive.
Fun Friday returned last week with the house basketball shootout. Congratulations to Meteor who came out on top in what was a competitive and enjoyable event. Fun Friday takes place every Friday lunchtime and provides an opportunity for all pupils who wish to get involved in something light-hearted to end the week positively.
I also want to remind families of our expectations regarding mobile phones. We have a clear policy of “not seen and not heard” which means that phones should be switched off and kept in bags throughout the day. If a mobile phone is confiscated the sanction is an hour long after-school Prep. This procedure is in place to safeguard pupils, as unfortunately inappropriate use of mobile phones through instant messaging and social media apps is something that is increasingly having a negative effect on young people in every setting.
Finally I am pleased to report that 51 Year 11 pupils attended Champions Hour this week. Champions Hour is a key part of our provision for Year 11. Our aim is to reach 100 pupils attending and there will be a reward available when we do. In addition pupils who attend 15 sessions will have their Loyalty Card entered into a prize draw. We are expanding Champions Hour this year as we know how important independent study and practice is in preparation for exams. Pupils will have access to practice papers, exam work books and masterclasses from teachers as part of the offer.
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Mr Hudson
