Letter from the Head - Friday 19th January

In this issue: Inaugural HP Activities Week in July 2024

Dear all,

I am delighted to be able to share with you some initial plans for our first ever HP Activities Week. This will take place in the week commencing Monday 8th July 2024. During Activities Week, our Year 7 to 10 students will come off their normal timetable and take part in a series of themed extracurricular activities that are able to go beyond our normal taught curriculum. It will be also be a fantastic reward for another year of incredible hard work from our students.

Years 7 to 10 will also have a day of physical activity planned into the week with students able to choose between a range of exciting and varied events in school or to go on a trip. The trips are to either Go Ape or to the South Cerney lakes and there will be a subsidised cost for these, which will be spread over three possible payment instalments. More details about this will be announced shortly, and students will be spoken to at assemblies next week, as they will need to sign up on a first come first served basis. The letters about the trips will be sent out next week with a first payment date of 1st February.

This week we have had some incredible opportunities for our students. Last Sunday our Ten Tors group had their latest expedition to South Wales, as part of the warm up for the main event later this year. During the week our CCF Cadets visited RAF Brize Norton where they had a fantastic day. They had the chance to visit a C17 Globemaster, the Parachute Training School, the Fire Section and the Joint Air Delivery and Test Unit. A huge thank you to everyone on the base for hosting us. On Wednesday evening, we took part in our first ever debating competition. Students were given a statement to argue with only a short time to prepare, before they were into the competition and debating against other schools. We were the only state school from the region to take part and are extremely proud of our students who were an absolute credit to us all.

Thank you to our Year 8 families for such a strong attendance at Parents Evening. Maintaining that home-school link is so important so that we can all work collectively to enable your children to have the best chance of success.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
