Letter from the Head – Friday 13th June
In this issue: A packed week including a brilliant Geography field trip to the coast, sporting success in Rounders and Cricket, continued work with our incoming Year 6 students and key reminders as we head into the final weeks of exams.
Dear HP families,
Earlier this week, some of our Year 9 Geographers headed to Lyme Regis as part of their coastal fieldwork. The purpose of the trip was to investigate whether the sea defences there are successfully preventing longshore drift. It was a long and demanding day, but the students were a credit to HP. They collected data methodically and remained fully engaged throughout, despite the long travel time and challenging conditions. Trips like this provide valuable real-world context to their learning and we’re really pleased with how seriously they approached it.
Sporting fixtures have been coming thick and fast this term and it has been fantastic to see our students competing with such spirit and skill. The Year 8 Rounders team took an impressive win against GA earlier in the week. The team worked brilliantly together, showing sharp fielding and some powerful batting. Congratulations to Poppy and Michelle who were named Players of the Match.
We also had another cricket tournament at Crypt. Each time the team plays, we see their confidence and understanding of the game grow. Oli L was named Player of the Match for his excellent performance and attitude. It’s always great to see students developing through sport and we’re proud of the progress the teams have made this season.
Mr Mortimer and Mrs Price have been out and about conducting transition visits to local primary schools. These are a key part of ensuring that our new Year 7s feel confident and excited to join HP in September. We are looking forward to welcoming our next cohort and these early conversations make a real difference to how settled they feel when they arrive.
For our Year 11 and Year 13 students, the finish line is nearly in sight. There’s just one final push left. We know this time can feel intense, but every paper completed is a step closer to the next stage of their journey. Please continue to support them with routines, rest and encouragement during this final stretch.
Next Friday, I will be sharing some updates about the developments taking place at HP for next year. We’re excited about the direction we’re moving in and I look forward to outlining some of the improvements we have planned.
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Mr Hudson
