Letter from the Head – Friday 12th December 2025
In this issue: The upcoming GLT Winter Concert, maintaining strong student attendance, an excellent Christmas Charity Week, successes in Catering exams, rewards for top house point earners, a university visit for KS5 PE and Sports Studies, and key information for the end of term.
Dear HP families,
The GLT Winter Concert will take place on Monday 15th December at The Chapel at Clifton College in Bristol, starting at 6.00pm with doors opening at 5.30pm and finishing by 7.30pm. Archie and Lola will be representing HP with a set of readings. Families are warmly encouraged to attend and can still book free tickets using this link. Please be aware that there is no onsite parking available so allow time to park in a nearby road which is free after 5pm and walk to the venue.
Attendance has remained a key focus throughout December. We know that strong attendance this month sets students up for a positive start in January. Every lesson matters and new learning builds day by day, so thank you to all families who are ensuring that children attend right up to the final Friday. Alongside the taught curriculum, students will next week enjoy a wide range of festive activities.
This week we held our Christmas Charity Week. All money raised will be split equally between our four House charities: Gloucestershire Bundles, The Pied Piper Appeal, The Willow Trust and Kingfisher Treasure Seekers. Students took part in a full programme of events, including an after-school craft fair on Tuesday featuring cards made by the paper craft enrichment group and jewellery made by the jewellery making enrichment group. There were craft activities for students to enjoy and the Head Students organised a fantastic Thursday lunchtime event with Christmas-themed sports games and plenty of prizes. We also had a tombola on Wednesday, an opportunity to write cards for local care home residents on Monday and our popular Bake Sale on Friday. The theme for cakes was Winter Wonderland and entries were judged at break before being sold at lunchtime. On the last day of term, students are invited to wear a Christmas Jumper and donate £1 during Line Up. Throughout the next week, families can contribute to the FoodBank donation table in Reception with tins and dried food which are taken to the Gloucester FoodBank at the end of term. My thanks go to Mrs Kingston for coordinating the entire week.
Well done to our Year 11 Catering students who completed their practical exams with great maturity and focus. Last Friday our top forty house point earners enjoyed a cinema afternoon as a reward for their commitment and effort this term. Congratulations to all who attended. Our KS5 PE and Sports Studies students visited the University of Worcester where they experienced lectures in performance analysis and sports nutrition and explored the campus while learning more about student life. We are grateful to the university for hosting.
A reminder that Friday 19th December is our last day of term with a 1.05pm finish. HP will reopen on Monday 5th January for an INSET day and students return on Tuesday 6th January. All key dates can be found on our Term Dates webpage.
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Mr Hudson
