Letter from the Head - Friday 10th October 2025
In this issue: celebrating our Year 7 and Year 8 Spelling Bee finalists, updates from a busy week of sports fixtures, Champions Hour achievements for Year 11, Student Council and Year 12 Prefect applications, and the launch of the Year 9 Battlefields Trip.
Dear HP families,
It has been another busy and positive week across HP with so many reasons to celebrate the achievements and commitment of our students. We begin with a fantastic performance from our Year 7 and Year 8 students who took part in this week’s Spelling Bee House Competition. The competition was intense and the level of difficulty they handled was impressive. We are especially proud of Lucy and Connor from Hurricane and Finley from Typhoon for making it through to the finals.
Well done also to Matthew from Hurricane and Joseph from Meteor for winning today’s KS4 Spelling Bee competition with Oscar from Typhoon finishing in third. A big well done to all who took part. The next house competition will be on 28th November and we look forward to seeing many more students taking part.
Sport has continued to be a highlight this week with many fixtures taking place. The Year 8 Girls Football team drew 2-2 against Gloucester Academy, showing great teamwork and resilience. Our 2nd VII Senior Netball Team played against Crypt, displaying strong communication and tactical awareness. A representative from our 1st XV Senior Rugby Team competed in a District Rugby Tournament demonstrating skill and dedication. Meanwhile our Year 7 Boys Rugby teams took part in a double header against St Peter’s and our Year 7 Girls Football team played against Severn Vale. The breadth of participation across different sports is excellent to see and we are proud of the effort, commitment and sportsmanship demonstrated by all our students.
In other areas, five Year 11 students have now completed their Champions Hour Loyalty Cards by collecting all fifteen stamps and are eligible for the prize draw. We intend to maintain this momentum with Year 11 as they prepare for their Snapshot Assessments in November, encouraging all students to continue their commitment to achieving their personal best.
The deadline for Student Council applications closes on Sunday. We encourage as many students as possible to apply. Student Voice and Student Leadership are vital parts of HP life and provide opportunities for our students to shape our community, develop key skills and make a positive difference. Similarly, we are delighted with the very high number of applications to be Year 12 Prefects. It is so pleasing to see so many students putting themselves forward to take on responsibility and lead by example within HP.
Finally, we were excited to launch the Year 9 Battlefields Trip this week. This trip is a key part of our curriculum enrichment and offers students a unique opportunity to both deepen their understanding of history and develop perspective.
It is wonderful to see our students thriving across so many areas of HP life.
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Mr Hudson
