Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - 2nd December 2022

In this issue: Rugby success, GROWS partnership work and Tuffley Community Litter Picks

Dear all,

On Tuesday, we were delighted to see our boys’ Year 7, 8 and 9 rugby teams complete a clean sweep by all winning their respective Greenshaw Rugby Festival tournaments. As well as their excellent sporting performances, all of our teams represented the school brilliantly and showed our HP values in both their endeavours and in victory. We are always thrilled to see our sporting teams win, but we are especially proud when we also see them conducting themselves so respectfully.

This week our Year 8 students started their Rank Order Assessments. Getting into the habit of preparing for and then trying their best at assessments is so important for our Key Stage 3 students. They have made a strong start this week and we wish them all well going into next week’s challenges.

We were fortunate to welcome the GROWS team into school this week to work with a range of Y9, 10 and 12 students and families. GROWS is a partnership of six universities and colleges in Gloucestershire who deliver events that help young people make informed decisions about their future. On Monday we started with the Year 12 Stepping Up event before moving on to the Year 9 Lighthouse aspiration workshop. Students from both year groups engaged very well with the sessions and found them beneficial. In the evening, we had a session for Year 9 & 10 families’ about revision skills. Thank you to the families who attended that evening and your feedback was that you found it very useful having tangible strategies to support your children at home with.

Tomorrow morning sees the Tuffley Community Litter Pick. These events will continue to take place on the first Saturdays in February, March, May and July. We have staff and students volunteering and are very much looking forward to being able to contribute to this important venture over the next few months. Please meet at HP Reception at 10am if you are interested in taking part.

I hope that you all have a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
