Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - 23rd June 2023

In this issue:

Dear all,

After the relative quiet of last week, we've had a very busy week - but first, please can I remind parents that with temperatures returning to normal next week, students should bring their blazers as normal on Monday morning. Students have been wonderful in coping with the hot weather, but we're all looking forward to some slightly cooler temperatures!

I want to start with Year 11 and 13! They made it! As I write this the last exam (A Level Further Maths) has just finished, and Year 13 are gathering on the field for their leavers BBQ. Year 11 had a wonderful leavers' assembly, and we are looking forward to their prom. Both year groups have been just incredible - working hard to the end, looking after each other, and showing impressive resilience and maturity until the very end.

Everyone at Holmleigh Park wishes them all the best, whether going off to university, apprenticeship or employment (Year 13), or whether they are remaining for Sixth Form or moving on (Year 11). They are all wonderful young people and deserve every success.

We've also had a number of events in school. We hosted a very successful athletics meet on Tuesday (despite the thunderstorms!), and we had a very positive meeting with Year 10 parents last night, in which Mr Hogarth outlined the support package which will kick in from next week for them.

We also appointed our new Student Leadership Team for the 2023-24 academic year. Congratulations go to the following:

  • House Captain (Hurricane) - Shanjith S

  • Deputy House Captain (Hurricane) - Ayisha B

  • House Captain (Javelin) - Jack B

  • Deputy House Captain (Javelin) - Fabio VG

  • House Captain (Meteor) - Lucy M

  • Deputy House Captain (Meteor) - Emily G

  • House Captain (Typhoon) - Noelia EO

  • Deputy House Captain (Typhoon) - Maheen R

  • Equality and Diversity Ambassadors - Aissata D & Isabel RDS

  • Charity Ambassadors - Niamh HW & Harry J

They headed up our first full school council meeting with students from Years 7 through to 13 coming together to share their views on how we can work together to improve the school.

I also had the chance to host the other secondary Headteachers in Gloucester and show them around Holmleigh Park on Friday. It was wonderful to hear their feedback on how much the school has improved in the last few years, as well as host a joint summit of student representatives from all schools.

Finally, we have had an excellent response to our Ski Trip and have now filled over 70% of the spaces. If you are interested, please do see Mr Foster's letter and act quickly to avoid missing out!

I hope you have a lovely weekend,

Mr Farmbrough
