Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - 17th June 2022

In this issue: New Head Students, DofE, Flying, and Year 10 Information Evening

Dear all,

It's been a brilliant, if hot, week.

Frst of all, huge congratulations go to our new Student Leaders for 2022-23. They were chosen from a very tough field, and have been leading House Assemblies this week. As we head towards the end of term and Sports Day, there's certainly a lot to play for! This year's House Captains are as follows:

Hurricane: Inga Rodgers

Javelin: Beth Trebble

Meteor: Jacob Smith

Typhoon: Harrison Moxham

Well done to Daisy-May Symonds who was appointed as Ambassador of Kindness for the School.

Finally, well done to the following who have been promoted to Senior Prefect:

Kye Barnes

Jessica Burns

Weris Dahir

Michal Hajdas

Mikolaj Hajdas

Favour Onabor Ekhator

Success Izekor Ekoma

Abby Reynolds

Riley Shakes-Giles

Jessica Silvester

Caitlin Stokes

Lily Summerell

Meanwhile, we've had a few exciting milestones in school. Last weekend saw our first DofE Expeditions go out, with Year 9 and 10 completing Bronze and Silver Practice Expeditions respectively. A big thank you to the staff involved, and hugely well done to all students who completed the expedition!

Next up, our Bronze and Silver groups have their assessed expeditions, while our Sixth Form students will be off on their Gold Practice. I can't wait to see how they get on!

On top of that, we've also got our Borneo trip to look forward to. It was great to host students from across the trust on Thursday for a planning meeting with Ms Hatch, and we are looking forward to sharing more of their news as they set about fundraising.

In another first, yesterday saw four cadets from our CCF head to RAF Saint Athan to go flying. I think the photos speak for themselves! In the next few weeks we'll be opening the CCF up to more widespread applications from Year 8 and Year 9, who will become our first full cohort in September.

Finally, a big well done to Year 11 and Year 13, who now have just one week to go. They continue to do brilliantly and will fully deserve the celebrations we have planned for them! Of course, as soon as they are finished we'll start work preparing Year 12 and 10 for their exams. Can I remind Year 10 parents in particular that Mr Hogarth has written to invite you to our information evening on Thursday 23rd June, in which we'll be talking through exactly what we'll be doing to support them over the next 12 months.

Best wishes,

Mr Farmbrough
