Holmleigh Park students are celebrating another strong set of A Level results today, with students securing a wide range of exciting destinations including leading universities, further study and employment.

The school has sustained last year’s best-ever A Level results, with a similar proportion of students achieving A* to B grades, alongside a slight increase in the number achieving A* to A grades.

The results also project a second consecutive year of positive value added, demonstrating that students at Holmleigh Park Sixth Form make more progress from their GCSE starting points to A Level than students nationally. The results once again place Holmleigh Park Sixth Form in a very competitive position alongside other sixth forms in the area.

Celebrating individual success

Among this year’s successful students is Alfie Degaris-Powell, who achieved A* in Mathematics, A in Physics and A in Further Mathematics. Alfie will go on to study Mathematics at the University of Bristol.

Alfie said:

“I’ve been awake since 3am and was relieved to open my results and see the grades. I am very happy with all of them and looking forward to starting university in Bristol. Holmleigh Park Sixth Form has been great; I’ve made use of all the study periods and my advice to future HP Sixth Form students is to just listen to the teachers – you will get the grades you want.”

Olivia Possee achieved A grades in Geography, Environmental Science and Biology and will study Biological Sciences at Durham University.

Olivia said:

“I am really happy, particularly with Biology as that is what I am continuing to study at university. It has been hard at times, but I have put in the extra time, attending all the extra support lessons my teachers put on. My advice to future HP Sixth Formers is to never give up – it’s all worth it in the end.”

Jacob Dix achieved A* in Mathematics, A in Chemistry and A in Physics and will progress to study Chemical Engineering at the University of Edinburgh.

Success across vocational courses

Students have also achieved excellent results across Holmleigh Park’s vocational courses.

Jack Miller achieved Triple Distinction* in Digital Media and has secured employment.

Holly Hughes achieved Double Distinction* in Digital Media and will progress to university.

Holly said:

“I was very happy when I opened up my results. Holmleigh Park Sixth Form is amazing; there is so much support and advice from the teachers and Sixth Form team, and you know if you work hard you are going to achieve high grades there.”

Evie Davies achieved Double Distinction* in Art and Design and will progress to a foundation art course to continue her studies.

Headteacher celebrates students and staff

Headteacher Dan Hudson said:

“I am very proud of all our Year 13 students for what they have achieved this year, and it has been wonderful this morning to hear them talking excitedly about the destinations and next steps that this set of results opens up for them.

“It has been particularly pleasing to sustain last year’s best-ever A Level results, while seeing a slight increase in the proportion of students achieving A* to A grades. The projected positive value added for a second consecutive year is also a significant achievement and demonstrates the progress our students make during their time at Holmleigh Park Sixth Form.

“These results show that Holmleigh Park Sixth Form is an ambitious and supportive environment that gives all our students the best possible chance of achieving fantastic destinations as they begin the next stage of their young adult lives.
