Holmleigh Park High School

Letter From the Head - 10th July 2020

Dear all,

We’ve had a great week, with our induction days for new Year 7 and Year 12 students taking place.

On Tuesday, Mrs Marsden-Green and I welcomed our prospective Sixth Form students. It was wonderful to see so many of our current Year 11 students, but also to welcome students from other Gloucester Schools. We were particularly pleased to see so many students from both Henley Bank and Gloucester Academy – our fellow Greenshaw schools in the city. We discussed our ambitions for the Sixth Form, and students were hard at work setting goals and researching careers on Unifrog – our brand new careers platform. We’ll be rolling this out across the school in September, so stay tuned.

Then, on Thursday, Mr King, Miss Screen and I were back online to speak to our new Year 7 cohort. We were delighted with the turnout, with close to two hundred students joining our live assembly and completing tasks throughout the day. They had a virtual tour, met their tutors, and completed some sample English, Maths and PSHE lessons, and we were blown away by their enthusiasm and excitement. They’re going to be another exceptional year group!

If you’d like to catch up on either day, you can find the Year 12 programme here and the Year 7 programme here.

We can’t wait for both year groups to start on Wednesday 2nd September, with all other year groups returning on Thursday 3rd September.

We have been busy planning for our reopening in September, and I’m very confident that we’ll be able to offer an experience which is as close to normal school as possible while remaining safe for staff and students. Next week, I will be writing to you with full details of our plans. I’ll also be sharing some reflections our first year as Holmleigh Park, and sending home reports on your child’s online learning. These aren’t intended to try and chastise children who may not have been able to complete all lessons, but we want to give you an accurate picture of your child’s progress, and identify any gaps they may need to fill in over the summer holiday.

Finally, please note that Friday 17th June is a staff INSET day, which we will be spending getting ready for September opening. We will set online work as normal, but will not be open to key worker children, Year 10 or Year 12 students.

Best wishes,

Mr Farmbrough
