Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - 11th June 2021

In this issue: Sports Day, keeping vigilant, and a big thank you to all our Year 11/13 teachers!

Dear all,

We've had a great first week back.

Although Year 11 and 13 are no longer in school, their teachers have been working flat out all week, and I'm very pleased to say that we have finished marking and internally moderating all of the Year 11 and 13 assessments. In total that's around 5,000 scripts in the last couple of months (on top of teaching full timetables!), so I'm hugely grateful for all their hard works. We now begin working with the exam boards to further moderate our grades to make sure they are as fair as possible. Can I remind parents that results days will be on slightly different days this year: A Level Results Day will be on Tuesday 10th August, and GCSEs will be released on Thursday 12th August.

Our focus has now shifted to Year 10 and 12, and it has been wonderful to spend some time with both year groups this week and see the way in which they are already shifting gears. Our intervention programme for Year 10 (including Period 6s) begins on Monday 21st June, and I'm excited to see the progress that they make.

Outside of HP, I am sure you will have seen the concerning news regarding the spread of the Delta Variant of COVID-19. As always, please can I assure you that we'll continue to follow the relevant government and Public Health England guidance. In the meantime, please make sure you continue to ensure your children carry out Lateral Flow Tests twice a week at home, and report their results here: tinyurl.com/HPHSReportTest

Finally, and perhaps most excitingly, today our Heads of Houses spoke to their Houses to officially launch the countdown to Sports Day 2021, which will be taking place on Wednesday 11th July. As well as the traditional track and field events, there will be a series of additional House Sport competitions in the coming weeks to allow students to earn House Points.

With hundreds of points therefore on offer, the House Competition is still very much up in the air. Meteor are currently in first place, with 2735 points, but there are only 90 points between first and last, so it could all change. Students can win points not just in contests but for great conduct in lessons, so there's still everything to play for!

Have a great weekend!

Mr Farmbrough
