Letter from the Head - Friday 23rd January 2026
In this issue: celebration of enrichment success at Birmingham Crown Court, football progress for our Under 13 boys, achievements and opportunities within CCF, plans to streamline communication with families, confirmation of term dates and a reminder about the upcoming INSET Day.
Dear HP families,
Last Saturday, eleven students from Key Stages 4 and 5 represented HP at the regional heat of the Young Citizens Bar Mock Trial Competition at Birmingham Crown Court. As part of last term’s enrichment programme, students prepared two criminal trials, taking on the roles of barristers, jurors, witnesses, and the court clerk and usher. During the competition they took part in three trials in full courtrooms, examining witnesses and delivering opening and closing arguments to the jury in front of real judges. Whilst the team did not progress to the national final, we received excellent feedback from the judges on the students’ advocacy skills. Our barrister mentor also commented positively on the professionalism and kindness shown by the students throughout the day. With one year’s experience now under our belts, we look forward to returning next year and welcoming more students to the team.
In sport, our Under 13 boys football team secured a hard fought 0-0 draw against a strong Severn Vale side. The team showed clear improvement from last week, moving the ball with greater confidence and purpose, and defending with real determination throughout the match. Player of the Match was awarded to Freddie K for an excellent individual performance.
Our CCF cadets have also had a very busy and successful period. Eight cadets visited Wycliffe College to use their range and take part in shooting activities. All had a fantastic time, and four cadets have since been selected to represent Holmleigh Park CCF in a regional competition taking place in February. In addition, seven cadets travelled to Bristol over the weekend to complete their St John’s Ambulance Youth First Aid course. All cadets passed successfully and returned proudly wearing their new bronze first aid badges on their uniforms.
We are currently reviewing how we communicate with you. As a large community with many opportunities available to students, we recognise that communications can at times be sent very frequently. This is not always the most helpful way to support families. Our intention is to centralise communication so that you receive fewer messages which are clearer and easier to refer back to. I will write to you again in due course with more information about this.
The 2026-27 term dates are now available here on our website. A reminder that Monday 26th January 2026 is an INSET Day and HP will be closed to students. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday 27th January.
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Mr Hudson
