Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - Friday 19th December 2025

In this issue: a festive final week of the Autumn term celebrating student achievement, character, community, contribution and looking ahead to the New Year.

Dear HP families,

As we reach the end of the Autumn term, I would like to reflect on a very positive final week and briefly recognise the many achievements that have shaped this term at HP.

Earlier this term, we celebrated our best ever A Level results with one in two grades awarded at A* to B. Our current examination cohorts are also showing strong promise. Year 11 Snapshots and Year 13 mock examinations this week demonstrated that students are capable of achieving excellent outcomes this summer. Attendance at Year 11 Champions Hour continues to be high and remains an important part of supporting exam readiness. Students have also shown pride in HP through their outstanding support at Open Evening, their strong interest in Student Council and Year 12 Prefect roles and the launch of the first ever edition of the HP Newspaper. Enrichment remains a strength, with seventy five clubs now embedded into the normal day alongside Fun Fridays, House Competitions, weekly sports fixtures, Duke of Edinburgh and Ten Tors expeditions, Eco Club success in securing the Green Flag and impressive musical and performance opportunities including the HP Choir and rehearsals for the school show.

This final week of term has had a distinctly festive feel and has provided a fitting opportunity to celebrate achievement, character and community spirit. Students enjoyed Christmas lunches across the week and took part in HP Hero Silent Discos which recognised those who have demonstrated consistently good attendance. Attendance is vital to success and it was important to acknowledge students who have shown commitment in this area. Celebration Assemblies were held today across year groups to reward both achievement and character. These assemblies were enhanced by excellent musical performances from our students and confident speeches delivered by our Sports Captains which reflected leadership and pride in HP.

In assemblies, I shared a message with students about reflection and looking ahead. Christmas is a time to be thankful for friends, family, school staff and opportunities. The New Year is a time to look forward, build on what has been achieved and aim even higher. When students return in January, their attendance, effort and kindness will help set the tone for 2026. This term has been full of achievement and pride and I thanked students for the contribution they have made to the community.

We also took time this week to say goodbye to Mrs Marshall, one of our Teaching Assistants, who retires today after twenty seven years of dedicated service. Her commitment, care and professionalism have had a lasting impact on generations of students and she leaves with our sincere thanks and best wishes.

As we approach the festive break I would like to remind families that Monday 5th January is an INSET day and all students return on Tuesday 6th January. Thank you for your continued support throughout the term and I wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable Christmas break.
