Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head – Friday 17th October 2025

In this issue: A successful Ofsted pilot visit, the launch of our new KS3 Diploma, recognition for Hugo’s musical achievements, details of next week’s special attendance raffle, and an invitation to our Sixth Form Open Evening.

Dear HP families,

I am very pleased that we were able to host a pilot Ofsted inspection this week. This was an opportunity for inspectors to practise the process and for us to contribute to the wider education system by supporting their training and development. As it was a pilot, there are no judgements, gradings or formal reports, but the feedback we received was extremely encouraging and a real reflection of the strength of our community.

Inspectors described pupils as feeling that they belonged, noting the warm relationships between pupils and staff and that pupils enjoy coming to HP. They repeatedly commented on the calm, purposeful atmosphere across classrooms and on how evident it is that expectations are high and relationships are strong. I think that says everything about the culture we build together at HP – one rooted in care, consistency and high expectations.

Alongside this, we launched our new end of Key Stage 3 Diploma with students this week. This exciting new programme gives our Year 9 students the opportunity to be recognised for their hard work and achievements across a range of areas. They will work towards gaining a pass, merit or distinction in three categories: academic progress, attitude to learning and achievements beyond the classroom. The Diploma aims to celebrate the rounded young people our students become and to give real credit for the commitment and character they show every day. We are looking forward to celebrating their successes with them and with you in the summer term.

I would also like to congratulate Hugo in Year 9 for his outstanding contribution to Gloucester Cathedral’s St Benedict’s Singers. This half term, Hugo has sung at a range of services including the County Harvest Thanksgiving and weekly Evensong services. Most recently, he performed alongside the Cathedral’s professional adult Lay Clerks, which is a remarkable achievement. It is wonderful to see HP students contributing to the wider community and excelling in such prestigious settings.

Next week we will hold our Special Attendance Raffle to celebrate excellent attendance this half term. Every student who has achieved 100 percent attendance will be automatically entered. Three £15 gift vouchers will be available to win in each year group. Attendance is a key part of success at HP and this is a small way to recognise and reward those who show great commitment to being here every day.

Finally, a reminder that our Sixth Form Open Evening will take place on Thursday 20th November, starting at 5:30pm. We are incredibly proud of the success of our Sixth Form students, with 48 percent of A Level grades in 2025 awarded at A* to B. We know that students who continue their journey with us have an excellent chance of achieving outstanding results and moving on to exciting futures. We look forward to welcoming Year 11 students and their families to explore the opportunities available at HP Sixth Form.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
