Letter from the Head – Friday 16th May 2025
In this issue: Ten Tors triumphs, exam week resilience, lunchtime welly wanging, District Athletics representation and a reminder on attendance.
Dear HP families,
Last weekend saw outstanding student participation in the annual Ten Tors event, and we are delighted to celebrate the efforts of everyone involved. On Saturday, Harley (Year 9) completed the Jubilee Challenge, covering 7.8 miles in total, showing great determination and independence. Josh (Year 9) deserves a special mention for being a constant support to Harley throughout the challenge, encouraging him every step of the way. We are all very proud of them.
Sunday brought more exceptional accomplishments. Our 45 mile team completed their route an impressive three and a half hours before the cut off time. Their efforts were matched by their sense of style, arriving at the finish line sporting cowboy hats and big smiles. Not to be outdone, our 35 mile team showed real grit and determination. After finding themselves two hours behind pace on Saturday, they rallied to make up over three and a half hours by Sunday, finishing confidently at 3:30pm.
We are also proud of Thabo (Year 9), who stepped in to support the Henley Bank team, enabling them to take part in the event. Thabo’s contribution proved crucial, and that team too finished with three and a half hours to spare. A huge thank you goes to all the Ten Tors staff for the time, commitment and encouragement they gave to our students across the weekend. Their dedication behind the scenes made these successes possible.
Alongside this, Year 11 and Year 13 students have continued to sit their exams this week. Their resilience, punctuality and commitment have been exemplary, and we are proud of the mature way they have approached this important time. Warm-up and booster rooms have been full, and the atmosphere remains calm and focused. As we often remind students, working hard always pays off.
On the field this week, our lunchtime House Welly Wanging Competitions proved a big hit. Students took part in great spirits and brought lots of laughter to lunchtime. It was wonderful to see the field buzzing with positive energy and House pride.
Tuesday saw another fantastic example of student commitment as a number of our athletes represented HP at the District Athletics Trials. We’ll be following their progress closely over the forthcoming athletics season.
Finally, a reminder that attendance remains our number one priority this year. We expect attendance of 95% or higher, as we know this is a key factor in student happiness, progress and success. Every day really does count. Please continue to check your child’s attendance on MCAS and speak to their Head of Year if you have any concerns.
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Mr Hudson
