Virtual Induction Day
I hope that this letter finds you and your family well at this time.
As we move towards the end of what has been a challenging school year, we continue our process of transition for students getting set to join us here at HP in September and we have some exciting developments to share with yourself and your children.
First, our induction day for new Year 7 students will take place on Thursday 9th July. Unfortunately, COVID-19 means that we cannot complete a normal induction day at Holmleigh. Therefore, the day will be virtual. There will be a series of events, following a schedule which is included below. We will send out links to all resources on Wednesday 8th July. The day will include a live Q&A session for parents with Mr Farmbrough, the Headteacher, Ms Screen, the Head of Year 7, and myself. These will be held at 2:30pm and 6:30pm; please click here to sign up.
We completely appreciate some students may not be able to follow this schedule; for example, some students will be in school. Almost all the activities, apart from the live welcome and the Q&A will be accessible at any time before 1st September.
Second, we are delighted to share our Transition Curriculum, which can be found on our website. These lessons have been put together by teachers at Holmleigh Park and across our family of Greenshaw Schools and will help students warm their brains up for September!
We fully appreciate that circumstances vary hugely from student to student; some will be in school completing lessons until the end of July, while others will not have been set much work this month. Therefore, the lessons are NOT compulsory; it is entirely your decision how many lessons your child completes, but I would urge students to look particularly at lessons in English and Maths, as well at the PSHE curriculum which looks to prepare students fully for life in secondary school.
And third, we know students are always eager to find out their house and tutor group. You will receive a copy of this letter in the post in the next few days, which will include these details. In the meantime, you can get excited about the house system by watching the video on this page!
Whilst the current climate has proved a unique challenge to the transition process this year, please rest assured that we are working closely with all primary schools to ensure that we are well prepared for your children starting with us in September. We hope that the lessons and activities we have put together will help to give our new students a greater sense of life at HP and that they are as excited to join us as we are to meet with them.
Mr James King
