Holmleigh Park High School

Letter to Year 6 Parents

Dear Year 6 parents and carers

Congratulations on securing a place at Holmleigh Park High School!

I’m writing on behalf of our staff and students to welcome you into our school community. You’re joining at an incredibly exciting time on our journey to become the best school in Gloucestershire, and we’re looking forward to meeting you all. I was particularly pleased to see that we’ve had more first choice applications this year than ever before, and I’d like to thank you for your trust.

As you know, our country is facing very uncertain times. Normally, we’d be inviting you to visit the school for information evenings, and arranging induction days for your children – but we can’t currently do this. Rest assured, when we do return, we’ll be sure to organise a thorough induction for all new students.

In the meantime, we’ll be doing lots of work to make sure that you have as smooth a start as possible:

  • Starting school can be daunting for students, but having some friendly faces makes a huge difference. As we can’t meet your children in person, some of our key staff will be recording videos for you to share with them. I’ve gone first, and you can find it here.

  • We’ll be working hard to communicate with primary schools to ensure we’ve got all the necessary information to support your child effectively from day one.

  • After the Easter holidays, we’ll be reaching out to you to make sure that we’ve collected the key details we need from you, and to give you more information on our expectation, uniform, and so on. For your convenience, we’ll be sending this information out in written form, but also putting together some videos to go into more detail.

  • We’ll be working hard to update our website with lots of key information, to give you a better flavour of our school. I’d particularly recommend having a look at our prospectus, which tells you more about our values and beliefs, and the Letters from the Head section, which contains weekly letters from me to all of our parents. We’ll also be putting all of our letters to you in the New Students section so you can view everything in one place.

  • For a more lighthearted view of the school, check out our Instagram page, which contains lots of photos of our students. While the country is in lockdown, we’ve been posting lots of Stay at Home Challenges, and a weekly Fun Friday competition, and we’d love to see your children get involved!

I’m very much looking forward to welcoming you and your children to Holmleigh Park. We will be in touch again soon, and our thoughts are with you and your families in these difficult times.

Yours faithfully,

Patrick Farmbrough
