Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - 8th July 2022

In this issue: Highlights from the week

Dear all,

I hope you'll excuse a rather brief letter as I'm writing this while up a mountain in Wales, waiting at a checkpoint for our Year 12s on their Gold DofE. We've certainly got good weather for it!

However, there are too many highlights for me not to write.

First of all, we've held two fantastic induction programmes. On Monday and Tuesday, we welcomes back most of our Year 11s, along with a large number of students from other schools across Gloucester for our Sixth Form Induction days. They took part in a series of taster lessons and enjoyed a BBQ out on the field on Tuesday. We've had over 200 applications this year so we're on track for a great year 12 cohort in September.

On Monday evening we welcomed year 6 parents to induction evening, followed by a series of induction days spread across the week. It was great to see such a high turnout, and staff massively enjoyed meeting such a brilliant group of students. We are very excited for them to start!

We've had a pretty full on week of trips too. Last weekend saw year 10 out on their silver DofE, so big congratulations go to all of the students who completed their assessment. The Year 12 biologists have been away all week on their field trip. But the biggest by far is the year 8 trip which headed up to Yorkshire today. We have nearly 200 students attending, so a massive thank you to all of the staff making the event possible. After cancelling it due to covid in Year 7, I'm delighted we've been able to make it up to them.

Finally, my biggest highlight of the week was attending Year 11 prom yesterday. I can't remember ever enjoying a prom so much - the students were absolutely brilliant company for the evening (the hotel staff all commented on how much politer HP were than all the other proms they've held this year!) and I hope they all had a wonderful evening.

Photos foe all of the above will be on our Instagram in due course, so please do check it out!

Finally, some of our Year 11 students are currently fundraising for a community project, as part of their participation in the National Citizen Service, and they've asked me to pass on that they'll be doing a car wash from 18:30 on Thursday 14th July at Staverton St John's Ambulance Hub. It's £5 per car - a bargain!

With all best wishes,

Mr Farmbrough
