Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - 6th May 2022

In this issue: A short but busy week, and good luck to our Ten Tors team!

Dear all,

I hope you'll forgive a very brief letter this week; four day weeks are always incredibly busy!

The sun has been shining, which has meant we've been able to open up the field at break and lunch, which always helps create a lovely relaxed feel in school. Not so enjoyable was the huge colony of bees which turned up unexpectedly at lunch on Thursday, having apparently had their nest destroyed! Fortunately, the colony has moved on and the bees were unharmed - largely thanks to the mature and sensible reaction from our students!

Most of my time this week has been spent interviewing candidates for a variety of roles. It's always exciting to welcome new staff into the school, and I'm looking forward to introducing them in due course!

In school we've been cracking on with Year 11 and 13, with the first exams of the season starting next week. They continue to be absolutely brilliant - we're all in awe of the resilience and determination they are showing in challenging circumstances. It's also been a busy week for our sports teams, with particularly good results in rounders.

Finally, good luck to our Ten Tors Team who are as I speak arriving at their campsite in Dartmoor. This weekend they'll be competing against hundreds of other teams to race over 35 miles, while carrying all their expedition kit and climbing 12 separate hills. We'll be posting updates on Instagram and keeping everything crossed for them! Next up for expeditions will be our DofE groups, and I'm just as excited to see how they get on.

Best wishes,

Mr Farmbrough
