Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - Friday 25th June 2021

In this issue: Keeping COVID secure

Dear all,

I have already written to you twice this week regarding COVID cases in schools, so I will keep this week's letter as brief as possible.

Two major positives this week:

First, the work on the new windows has started, and they look fantastic; the classes which have been finished look much newer, brighter, and are far, far better insulated. I look forward to sharing the pictures with you in due course.

Second, a big congratulations to Year 10 who have started Period 6. This is an extra period after school finishes at 14:55. Although it's only one of many interventions, it is probably our most important one. Quite simply, it increases Year 10's lesson time by a full 20%, which we know will give them a real edge in their exams. I'm very proud of how they have responded to this challenge, with attendance for this week sitting at 98%. They have also made a great start on their mock exams, as have Year 12. Good luck to both year groups!

The week, unfortunately, has been dominated by COVID. Those students sent home will switch to online learning on Monday - lessons will be on Google Classroom in the same format as they were during lockdown. I know they'll be brilliant, and I'm very grateful to all of you for your support as we do our best to manage the virus.

Cases in Gloucestershire are rising quickly, and the county is now above the national average for numbers of cases. It is therefore more important than ever that students take their Lateral Flow Test twice a week - this is our best defence as a school. I have attached a letter below from the council, sent today, to all school parents reminding you of some other steps you can take.

As always, we will continue to monitor the situation both in school and in Gloucestershire, and will take any precautions we feel are necessary in the coming weeks.

Best wishes,

Mr Farmbrough
