Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - Friday 5th March

In this issue: Back to School on Monday!

Dear all,

First of all, a big thank you for sending your children in for COVID-19 tests this week. I'm delighted to say that we have carried out over 1,000 tests - all of which have been negative. I'm so grateful to all the staff and volunteers who have made the operation run like clockwork - as you can see, it's a big undertaking!

Parents should results for students aged 11-15 within a couple of hours of the test. These will come via NHS Track and Trace - but please rest assured that we will call you immediately if your child tests positive. So if you don't receive a Track and Trace notification, that means the result was negative! All of this means we're ready to welcome students back on Monday - and I can't tell you how excited we are!

To make sure the return to school goes smoothly, please can I remind parents to ensure that students are fully equipped and in correct uniform - in particular, please remember that the only jewellery permitted is one plain gold or silver stud in each ear lobe. If you need any help with uniform, please contact your Head of Year directly.

There is one change: the government now recommend that students wear face masks in classrooms. This is in addition to our existing rules requiring students to wear masks at all times while on the corridors. Please do support with this by making sure your child has a mask. We will also be keeping windows and doors open to maximise ventilation in class. Please don't be fooled by last weekend - next week looks cold, so encourage your child to either wear layers beneath their school shirt, or to wear the school jumper. We have spares we can lend to any student who needs one.

Otherwise, we're aiming for students to have as normal a school day as possible. I strongly believe that all this talk of catch up and lost learning is unhelpful, so we won't be doing that. The best thing for your child is to get them straight back into normal lessons, and so that's what we'll be doing with our normal focus on high expectations and great learning.

Finally, to finish, thank you for once again doing such a brilliant job supporting your children over lockdown. We've been blown away by the quality of online learning, and we hugely appreciate all the support you've shown us.

Best wishes,

Mr Farmbrough

Headteacher
