Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - 12th February 2021

In this issue: Rounding off term 3, and looking forward after half term!

Dear all,

Well - what a term! Once again, I'm incredibly grateful to you for your support. Despite going into lockdown with less than 24 hours notice, our students have done brilliantly transitioning back to online learning, and I was particularly pleased that, even this week, engagement levels remained very high. I remain so impressed by the quality of work students are uploading every day.

Once again, we drew some raffle winners on Good Morning HP (Episode 4 can be watched here). Congratulations this week go to:

Scarlett R (Year 7), Caitlin D (Year 8), Carter N (year 9), Bethany L (Year 10), Mihal H (Year 11), Lily C (Year 12), Will C (Year 13)

Prize bags are on their way (but might not arrive until after half term!). We've also launched another prize - each week our Heads of Year pick out one student who has gone above and beyond what's expected, and we'll pay for the whole family to have a takeaway as a thank you! This week's winner is Jess L (Year 11) - we'll be in touch!

With half term ahead, now is a great time for students to get some time away from the screen. Our step counting challenge is still going on. Javelin are in the lead (having reached the outskirts of London today) - students can upload their step counts here to earn house points: https://tinyurl.com/hpsteps

We're also launching what we hope will become an annual event - HP's got talent. This year will of course be virtual, but we want students to send in their talents - music, drama, comedy, cooking, juggling - it can be anything. House Points, Culture Colours and stardom all on offer as prizes. Entries can be submitted through Google Classroom - students need to find the HP's Got Talent Assignment in their yeargroup stream.

Looking forward to next term, I'm afraid there's still no news on when we will be back. We know the earliest possible date remains the 8th March, but as soon as we know more, we will of course let you know.

We do, however, need to move ahead with the Year 9 Options process, so will be carrying that out online. Full details will be sent out on Monday 1st March, but just to flag two key dates:

  • Year 9 Parents' Evening will be online (via Edulink) on Thursday 4th March from 17:00-19:00 to get feedback from class teachers

  • There will be an optional follow up evening to discuss your child's choice with a senior member of staff on Thursday 11th March.

I hope you and your families have a lovely half term,

Mr Farmbrough

Headteacher
