Update on Return to School / COVID Testing

Note: Mr Farmbrough has sent an additional letter with further information on the testing programme. This can be viewed here

Dear parents & carers,

You may be aware that the Secretary of State for Education made a statement to the House of Commons this afternoon, in which he outlined some changes to when students will return to school. I'm writing this evening as I want to give you as much notice as possible; frustratingly, Headteachers have not been given any more information than has been shared with the media.

There are now three stages to the staggered return:

1. Week beginning 4th January

  • Children of key workers, those who have EHCPs or who otherwise require an onsite provision will be able to attend school from Wednesday 6th January; please email [email protected] if you wish to book your child in for this.

  • All other students will have lessons set online via Google Classroom. (Note: For Year 11, 12 and 13, these will be streamed live, so students should follow their normal timetable. For Years 7-10, lessons will be recorded in advance so students can complete them at any time during the day).

  • Year 11 and 13 students will be tested for COVID-19 on Friday 8th January. Please see below for times.

2. Week beginning 11th January

  • Year 11 and 13 will return to school on Monday 11th January at 8:30. They will have their second test during the day.

  • Children of key workers, those who have EHCPs or who otherwise require an onsite provision will be able to continue attend school

  • All other students will continue to be set online work.

  • All students will also be tested (if parental consent has been given). Students in Year 11 and 13 will do this during the school day; other students will be invited in at set times (see below). You can view more information on the testing process here. You can give your consent  here.

3. Week beginning 18th January

  • All students are expected to return on Monday 18th January

  • (Please note; the government have suggested that this might be pushed back for the "most severe" Tier 4 areas. I don't expect Gloucestershire to be included in this but will update you if this changes).

I do understand that this will cause some inconvenience, and I am sorry that the government have not given either parents or schools more notice. I'm confident that between our ability to test students rapidly and the introduction of vaccines, 2021 will see a return to normal schooling - but in the meantime, I remain very grateful for your trust and support.

Best wishes, and a Happy New Year to you and your families!

Mr Farmbrough
