Dear Parent/Carer,

We are now half way through the academic year and Year 10 students are half way through their study of the Literature GCSE.

Revision in English can be onerous due to the sheer volume of information students need to remember.  The provision of the key texts has given students the opportunity to re-read the key texts at a time of their choosing and when directed by their teachers.  It is unquestionable that students who know the key texts very well, predominantly find it easier to access the examination questions and apply analytical skills.

The best revision happens slowly over time.  Having a firm grasp of characters, plot, themes and key concepts, (at an early stage of the GCSE course) frees students to focus on examination skills in Year 11.  To help enhance student understanding, we would like to offer students the opportunity to buy revision guides for the key texts they are studying this year: Jekyll and Hyde, Romeo and Juliet and The Love and Relationships poetry cluster.  We are able to offer the guides at a reduced rate of £3 each (RRP £5.99). 

Year 10 completed the study of the Love and Relationships poetry Cluster in term one.  Students will continue their study of Jekyll and Hyde in Term four and will begin their study of Romeo and Juliet in Term five.

Although not compulsory, it is recommended that guides are purchased to aid independent study.
